Trompe l’oeil (“ Trick the eye”) is an antique technique that uses perspective drawing and shading to create an optical illusion of depth on a flat surface. We achieve three dimension by adding painted architectural features like moulding, arches, vaults and distant landscapes.
Gold and silver leaves have been applied throughout the centuries to highlight and enrich architectural details. We use a variety of leaves which ranges from pure gold, palladium, silver, copper and imitation leaves.
We offer a wide range of specialist paint finishes consistent with the existing architectural features and mindful of our clients’ requests.
This antique technique is used to create the look of a wide range of wood like oak, mahogany, walnut, maple and many more with the possibility of combining them with faux marble, semi-precious stones in inlaid patterns.
Like wood graining, this technique allows us to replicate on various surfaces different kinds of marble and semi-precious stones which are unique and exceptionally realistic. From a simple veined Carrara marble to the exquisite Lapis Lazuli and Malachite we rely on the Van Der Kelen method by adding several layers of paint with great care in creating realism and depth.
This paint technique allows us to replicate numerous fabrics by recreating their distinctive qualities, from their texture to their lustre, colour and patterns. Upon request we can add texture to the paint in order to convey a realistic feel to our work.
With stuccowork decorations come alive and become three dimensional. Its shadow changes throughout the day in accordance to the change of light. We replicate pre-existing ornaments and mouldings or create new models in order to provide a unique and distinct decoration.
Mosaics have been used throughout the centuries to enrich interiors by the application of fine materials like marble, stones and glass. Our mosaics are fully handmade, each tile has been hand cut in order to convey a natural feel to the patterns.
Our restoration services include cleaning, repairing, paint consolidation of pre-existing murals, stuccowork and gilding. If necessary we re-create the existing decorations wherever missing or if extensively damaged by inpainting with great respect to the artistic integrity of the project.
